1. I want each student (or client) to take the test (Work Importance Locator and/or Interest
Profiler) but I want to print up their results or review their answers later. How do I do
this?
When each student/client has placed all the cards
(Work Importance Locator) or responded to all the
statements (Interest Profiler) they should be instructed
to click on the SAVE button at the bottom of that
assessment's screen. Have them save their work to a
floppy disk, the hard drive or the designated location
on your network. Make sure they give their file a
meaningful name, following a standardized scheme of your
choosing, so you can locate it later. They can then expore
their scores and suggested occupations all they want
without losing their answers.
When you are ready to print their results, return to the
desired assessment tool in OSCAR as if you were going to
take the assessment yourself. Click on the RETRIEVE button
and pull in the first student/client file. (The saved files
should end in .VAL for Work Importance Locator answers or
.INT for Interest Profiler answers.) The screen will be reset
to seem as if that person never left, with the cards placed
as they positioned them (or the Interest Profiler statements
evaluated as they left them.) Click CONTINUE to go to the
scores screen and click WORK VALUES REPORT (for the Work
Importance Locator) or PRINT LIST (for the Interest Profiler.)
To print the next person's results, click BACK on each screen until you return to the assessment work screen (Work Importance Locator cards or Interest Profiler statements.) Then click RETRIEVE to bring in another saved file and repeat to print.
2. In the Texas version of OSCAR 2 there is an option titled "I Want To Combine My Saved
Assessments." How does that work?
If you have already completed the Work Importance Locator
and Interest Profiler assessments, and saved your answers
to a file, you can bring those results back and combine
the resulting occupation lists to see which occupations
were identified in both assessments. Click GET LOCATOR RESULTS
and load your Work Importance Locator answers (.VAL) file.
You will then be able to click GET PROFILER RESULTS and load
your Interest Profiler answers (.INT) file.
When you have retrieved an answers file from both assessments you will see your scores from both assessments on the screen and a list of occupations (if any) which were suggested by both assessments. You can print a report showing these combined results and your answers by clicking on the REPORT button.
3. What about the results my students saved when they were quitting OSCAR? Can I use those
results to bring back their assessment scores?
The results you are prompted to save when you are leaving
OSCAR are only occupation lists from the modules you have
visited during that session, and as indicated on screen
are for use in the Career Clusters feature only. Your
actual answers to any assessment or search are not recorded,
just the list(s) of occupations which were identified.
When you are viewing a list of matching occupations in the Work Importance Locator, Interest Profiler, I Enjoy..., Search, or Best Match modules you can click on the CAREER CLUSTERS button to explore occupations based on the most common training areas for your matching occupations. You can click ADD OCCUPATIONS to combine the results from other modules you have visited while using OSCAR this time, or you can click GET OCCUPATIONS to add in some or all of the occupation list results you saved when leaving a previous OSCAR session. You can mix saved results from different sessions (for example, Best Match from today, Work Importance Locator from last week and Interest Profiler from the day before that), but you can only use one list from each module.
4. I'm not sure that I agree with the occupation lists I see in the Education & Training
section in OSCAR's Search tree. Is there something amiss?
Good eyes! Yes, there is a glitch in that section. The values which identify each training category managed to get reversed (in the Texas version only) and therefore report occupations from the opposite end of the scale. You can find a fix for this error here.
5. Are there any updates to OSCAR?
You can
check here for any OSCAR updates and patches.
