Occupational Career Clusters Digital Video Show

Welcome to the latest in high quality digital occupational video! The Occupational Career Clusters Digital Video Show has been created by the staff of Career Development Resources, Texas Workforce Commission, to show the library of occupational videos produced by the U.S. Department of Labor.

This program contains 304 digital career and occupational video segments organized for viewing by the sixteen career clusters developed by the U.S. Department of Education. Each career cluster also has a "cluster video montage" that gives an overview of occupations within each cluster built around the job duties and knowledge areas they generally have in common. The career clusters used in the Video Show are part of a nationwide education initiative designed to link what students learn in school with knowledge and skills they need for success in college and careers. Looking at the job market from a career clusters perspective helps identify pathways from secondary school to 2- and 4-year colleges, graduate and professional school and the workplace. This connection should help students see the relevance between class work and the workplace and motivate them to work harder and take more rigorous courses. Click here to visit the career clusters website for more details.

The Occupational Video Show is ideal for student and jobseeker career exploration. Each video is closed captioned making it an ideal tool for working with hearing disabled clients. Each video clip is a little over a minute long with high-resolution footage from the usual workplace environment and narrated scripts which describe typical workplace interactions. With the Occupational Video Show students don't just read about a career...they experience it! Added features such as labor market information narratives, which relate occupational earnings and projected job openings by Texas Workforce Development Board Area, and multiple Internet links, make this program even more valuable.

Flexibility and powerful career development information have been combined in this easy to use software package. Students can explore each cluster by following the video disc prompts. The software can be left available for students in a counseling office, job center or library for use without mediated guidance. Yet, the video and narration is so interesting that it can become an invaluable part of any occupational investigation or career exploration course. A variety of career topics are covered by these videos. Click here to see a complete list of videos. Students can review each career cluster and review a general video about that career topic. Then, the student may view a wide array of occupational videos in any one of the career cluster selections.

The Occupational Video Show has other features that make it a valuable addition to any teacher's or counselor's repertoire of career information products. If you are running version 2.1 of the Texas OSCAR skills transferability software and have the Digital Video Show installed, OSCAR will allow you to view the videos from within the OSCAR program. An added feature is the Camera Stillshot. Pause the Video Show, take a snapshot of the occupation on the screen and save it as a graphic file for later use in PowerPoint slideshows, or embedded in text. A "Find" feature allows the student to search through the library of occupations in order to quickly query and select a title within a career cluster. A section providing answers to Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) makes the program even more self-directed. To order the Digital Video Show, print this online order form and mail it to LMCI. For more information about the Digital Video Show, contact the Career Information Hotline.
